Procedure for using the protective clothing vertical flame spread tester
The use process of the protective clothing vertical flame spread tester is generally as follows:
Preparation before the test
1. **Environmental preparation**: Ensure that the test environment temperature is between 10℃ and 30℃, the relative humidity is between 30% and 80%, and the air flow rate is less than 0.2m/s.
2. **Instrument inspection**: Place the tester on a stable, spacious, clean and sharp workbench, connect the power supply, turn on the power switch, and check whether the various indicator lights and display screens are working properly.
3. **Gas source preparation**: Prepare suitable gas, such as industrial propane or butane gas, connect the gas source to the instrument, and ensure that there is no leakage at the joint.
4. **Sample preparation**: Cut a representative sample from the protective clothing, the size is usually 300mm long × 80mm wide, and the long side should be parallel to the warp or weft of the fabric. Each group of test samples generally takes 10 samples, 5 warp samples and 5 weft samples, and the warp samples cannot be taken from the same warp yarn, and the weft samples cannot be taken from the same weft yarn. Place the sample in a standard atmosphere with a temperature of (20±2)℃ and a relative humidity of (65±2)% for 8 to 24 hours, then take it out and place it in a sealed container.
Installation and debugging
1. **Installation of sample**: Place the pretreated sample in the sample clamp so that the sample is vertical, flat and without folding or twisting. The lower edge of the sample should be flush with the lower end of the sample clamp, and ensure that the clamp is firmly installed.
2. **Adjust the position of the burner**: According to the positioning device or ruler of the instrument, accurately adjust the burner to the specified distance and angle with the sample.
3. **Adjust the flame height**: Open the gas source valve and slowly adjust the gas flow rate to make the flame stable and reach the appropriate height. For example, according to different standard requirements, the flame height may be 12mm or 25mm, etc., and the flame height measuring device can be used for confirmation.
Test process
1. **Set test parameters**: According to the test requirements, set relevant parameters on the instrument, such as ignition time, burning time measurement range, etc.
2. **Start the test**: Press the start button and timing button on the tester to start the test synchronously and quickly. The tester will automatically ignite the sample and record the burning time, surface area, residual length and other parameters.
3. **Observation and recording**: During the test, carefully observe the burning phenomenon of the sample, such as the shape, color, and spread speed of the flame, and record relevant data, including burning time, flame height, carbonization length, etc.
Post-test processing
1. **End the test**: When the sample is burned or the set test time is reached, the tester will stop recording and display the test results.
2. **Evaluation and analysis**: According to the test results, compare the requirements of relevant standards or specifications, evaluate and analyze the flame retardant performance of the protective clothing to determine whether it meets the requirements.
3. **Result recording and reporting**: Record the test results in detail, including sample information, test parameters, test results, and evaluation conclusions, and generate a formal test report.
4. **Cleaning and maintenance**: After the test, turn off the gas source valve and the instrument power switch, clean the tester and workbench, and remove residual combustion products and debris. Regularly maintain and calibrate the tester to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the instrument.
