Gravel Impact Tester Test Content and Principle
The Gravel Impact Tester, also known as the MTG or Stone Grinding Machine, is specifically designed for testing the resistance of automotive materials and surface coatings to gravel impact. It simulates the varying degrees of damage caused by gravel and sand impacting the surface of automotive exterior parts during road use.
I. Compliance Requirements:
SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers)
ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials)
VDA (Association of the German Automotive Industry)
General Motors
Ford
Mazda
Volkswagen
Toyota, etc.
II. Test Content:
1. Cohesive failure test of external coatings
2. Adhesion failure test of different layers in a coating system
3. Peel and impact resistance of plastics and glass
III. Working Principle:
A certain weight of gravel is vibrated into a chute feeder, where it is then directed toward the test sample by a jet of air. After the media strikes the test target, it falls into a grit collection box.
